Gifts for 12 months and under

The great thing about babies under 12 months is that they really don't need much! Everything is so new and exciting, that you will find that every day objects work just as well, if not better, than toys marketed towards babies. I was fairly scrupulous when it came to acquiring baby toys, and I think most of them either fit in a small bag, or are open ended enough that they are still being used now at 2.5! If you do need ideas, or people are asking you for gift ideas, then here are some of my favorites to suit that age group. As always, make sure you review safety requirements for each item before giving to your infant. Contains affiliate links with no cost to you.

Mirror

So we just used a Walmart mirror (with supervision, she never let me go very far), but this one looks like a good option

Little Unicorn Muslin

We have these, and I love them so much! Very versatile- good for wrapping littles, peekaboo, tents, and my now 22 month old loves to play with them with her dolls and sleep with them.

Toki Mats

Soft Foam playmats made with all certified safe materials!

Object Permanence Box
We loved this from 10 or 11 months to 15 months- some babies like them sooner, but definitely a solid Montessori work.

Montessori Rattle

We got this one for my nephew and it was very nice, and even came with it's own bag. Very simple Montessori style rattle.

The Montessori Toddler
I love the illustrations and it is one you will want to own so that you can go back to it for reference.

Simone Davies has written a new book, The Montessori Baby, which can be pre ordered here!

Interlocking discs

Great for learning hand to hand transfer

grasping cube and box

Grimm's grasping beads, large marbles, bowls and any of their grasping toys! I love that they are safe for little ones! Use my referral code for $10 off

Holztiger Animals- as long as you stay away from the teeny ones, most Holztiger animals are not choking hazards, perfect for drooling and teething- though for little ones I try to stay away from figures with tails or trunks that are likely to break off if loved extra hard.

Oneida baby feeding set
We had the 3 piece set and it is super nice... still hoping our fork shows up somewhere! If you are looking for something cheaper, Walmart sells three piece stainless sets of toddler cutlery for around $4.

Weaning cups
We started with a shot glass at 6 months- I think we went through maybe 4 shot glasses for various reasons, but make sure you buy several!

Spinning Drum

Perfect for a child who can reach and touch or hit at things or when a child is  is sitting up comfortably. I think we aged out of this one at about 11 months or so.

Baby Paper

A great safe alternative for children who love to play with paper or crinkly sounding items.

Calmies Chewing toy

Perfect for working on the grasp, you can hang this one at first, and then later use as a teething toy. We still use our sensory balls from when she was under a year as they are great for redirecting her need to throw things.

sensory ball

A nice, non toxic option to chew

fabric ball

Nice little folds to grasp with different textures and colors to explore. Also great for rolling, crawling, throwing as they get older.

Books!

Scratchie

cute, funny, durable, and has great textures!

Pat the bunny books

these are still favorites at 23 months! Not super durable for teething, so one best enjoyed together

Priddy Books touch and feel books

they seem to be the most generous and logical with their textures
